Got old football kits lying around at home? Instead of letting them gather dust, why not give them a new life and make a real difference? Green Football’s Great Save campaign is running until the end of April, and it’s all about keeping sportswear in play for longer.
Why get involved?
Every year, around 100,000 tonnes of sportswear end up in landfills – that’s an awful lot of kit that’s going to waste, and polluting our environment.
By donating, swapping, selling, or repairing old football kits, we can all do our part to cut down waste, save money, and help out those who might need a little extra support. Even keeping just one item of kit in play for longer makes a big difference!
Ways to make the Great Save
There are plenty of fun and easy ways for parents and children to take part in Green Football’s Great Save:
- Organise a kit swap with teammates or at your local club to exchange outgrown football gear.
- Donate kit to a good cause – pass it on to friends or family, or drop them off at one of our collection points across the UK. That includes drop-off spots at many football clubs and your local Salvation Army shop. If you can’t get to a drop off point, use the free kit postal service to donate your kit so that it goes to good use.
- Sell & save – List second-hand kit on resale platforms like eBay, Vinted, or Facebook Marketplace or Kidd3r and keep it in play.
- Sew & repair – Teach your child how to patch up holes or sew on missing buttons so kits last longer.
- Spread the word! Saving just two items of sports kit from landfill saves the same amount of carbon absorbed by a large tree every year. If we all saved just two items this Great Save, think how much impact we can have together.
